Employment Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 year of age.
Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Convo Center will train the right person.
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis.
Scheduling is event based.
Background checks may be required.

The Northern Illinois University Convocation Center is accepting applications for part-time employment. Applications can be submitted or filled out on Wednesdays or Thursdays between the hours of 8:30 - 4:00 in the Convocation Center Administration office. Positions are available in Food Service, Parking, Event Cleaning. Community members are welcome to apply.



Position Summaries
The Convocation Center promotes excellent customer service. All staff act as information hubs for our Guests. Individuals must be able to work flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, and some Holidays.

Event Clean:
Keeps all areas in safe, clean condition.
Walks the facility during events with broom and dustpan, picking up trash and/or spills.
Performs custodial duties before, during, and after events.

Event Staff:
Greets guests and takes or scans tickets at entrances.
Assists patrons to their proper seats and answers questions.
Keeps aisles and other areas clear.
Secures doors, entrances, and exits.
Keeps unauthorized persons out of restricted areas.

Parking:
Directs guests to the proper parking areas.
Issues Parking Passes.
Handles money.
Patrols lots to deter vandalism and promote guest safety.

Security:
Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaks, and unlocked security doors.
Warns violators of rule infractions and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
Prevents patrons from entering restricted areas.
Secures doors and clears the building.

Stagehands:
Sets up, aligns and strikes seating risers, portable chairs, basketball floor, pipe and drape, and stages.
Unloads and loads production equipment from trucks.
Moves equipment to stage, assisting set up.
Stacks sound equipment and speakers.

Food Service Cashier:
Collects payments from customers for food purchases.
Operates point-of-sale register.
Disburses proper change and receipts.
Prepares menu boards.

Concessions Worker:
Arranges food service equipment.
Prepares simple food items for consumption by guests.
Presents food items to guests.
Cleans food service stations.

Kitchen Help/Cook:
Prepares items for steam counter and short order.
Assists in the preparation of meats, fish, vegetables, and other items.
Assists in serving food.
Cleans kitchen area, equipment, and utensils.

Lead Cook:
Supervises, instructs, and plans the work of others engaged in the preparation of large-scale concessions/catering.
Estimates food quantities to be cooked for and during events.
Assumes responsibility for sanitation of the kitchen area.
Prepares and cooks all required food items.

Food Service Supervisor:
Supervises activities in the concessions area.
Supervises the serving of food in suites and assists in serving banquets and special functions.
Assists in the training and supervision of Concessions Workers, Cooks and Food Service Cashiers.
Documents work schedules.

Ticket Seller:
Sells tickets using computerized ticketing system - Ticket Master.
Balances and reconciles ticket sales to receipts, including cash, checks, and credit card payments.
Distributes tickets that may be prepaid or left by a staff member or student athlete.
Assists guests with queries regarding Convocation Center events.
